FMAH is seeking a communications intern
Communications Intern Job Description
The Fibromyalgia Association of Houston, Inc. (FMAH) is seeking a college student for an unpaid communications internship. Our intern will gain experience working with a small nonprofit patient advocacy organization to enhance its outreach efforts through a wide range of communications disciplines, including social media, public relations and marketing.
The intern will be responsible for researching and writing content for our website, marketing materials, newsletter and press releases. He or she will also work with the board of directors to develop and implement outreach activities to expand our patient base and media opportunities. Other duties include updating social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook; assisting in updating FMAH’s website; assembling short news articles with photos or videos for media pitches; developing new online handouts and patient brochure; attending and take photos at meetings and events; and performing other duties as assigned.
The ideal candidate should be well organized, self motivated, able to multitask and is pursuing a degree in marketing, communications, English, journalism, advertising, public relations or a related program. Graphic design and basic web design experience is preferred.
Because FMAH is an all volunteer organization with no physical location, the intern will be required to have access to a computer with Microsoft Office, an email address and a telephone. The intern will be challenged to recognize opportunities and generate new ideas. He or she will report to the vice president of patient education but will also work with other members of the board of directors on various projects.
